Joan of Arc is one of the most famous people in history, but few know her story of how unshakable faith fueled an illiterate peasant girl to alter the course of history.
Joan was born in 1412, right in the middle of the Hundred Years’ War, when France was defending its independence from England. As a teenager living in rural France, she has divine visions guiding her to save her country from English domination. Embracing her calling, she convinced Charles, heir to the French throne, to let her lead an army. Despite her lack of experience, Joan's fierce determination and confidence helped inspire their troops. They turned the tide in the Hundred Years War, winning essential battles to crown King Charles at Reims.
But her style of inspiring the troops to have faith and keep pushing forward would soon take a different luck. Joan got defeated at Paris Siege and was eventually captured. She was handed over to the English Church, where she was accused of heresy and witchcraft and burned at stake. Despite her death, Her legend would keep growing and continue to shape France's future, being even canonized by the Catholic Church in 1920.
Faith can be a powerful tool to motivate others. Her unwavering belief in her mission fueled her courage, inspiring others and ultimately changing the course of history. But, if you don’t balance faith with reason, your faith can only take you so far.
